Today has been a busy day making up chores and house cleaning that wasn't fit into this past weekend's busy schedule. Friday night my husband and I saw Billy Elliot. It was just ok. Nothing will ever beat Phantom of the Opera, which we saw last winter. Period. Phantom blew me away with the orchestra alone, not to mention the pyrotechnics, colorful costumes, and best songs from a musical ever. (well, Sound of Music songs are pretty awesome too) It even rivaled the movie, which is pretty darn near impossible to do on a stage in front of a live audience. Billy did nothing for me. I didn't leave feeling inspired or in awe, just a bit miffed as to why so much foul language was necessary in a play about a kid. And what was the deal with Billy's friend dressing up in girl's clothes and kissing him? Again, super unnecessary. Too many Elton John vibes for me. After the show we went downtown for a bit, but being the old poots that we are, we were in bed by 1. It was too cold for me anyway (I saw snow-flakes) The next day I did six hours of volunteer yard work. Despite the rain, the cold and the wind, we had a good time and accomplished a lot. And since our daughter was at a friend's house for the whole weekend, we could actually go out for a nice quiet dinner and then turn in early. Sunday we were invited out to lunch by some new friends of ours that just moved here from Arizona. It was very kind of them to invite us; they even treated. Unfortunately it was at IHOP. I got the "healthiest" item on the menu, a salad, and still ended up almost puking. The wilted ice burg lettuce was pre-dressed in I think Splenda and yellow #12. Later we all went shopping for fall clothes, then home to watch How to Train a Dragon, which was awful. I made an all-natural apple cranberry pie for dessert. Not awful. All in all, it was a decent enough weekend, but it left no time for the things I needed to get done, namely, shop and clean. So today we made it out of the house before noon ( a feat in itself) and headed over to the farmer's market and Trader Joe's. I did one load of laundry and talked to Nicole Y. for 45 minutes. That left just enough time to make lunch: turkey ranch wraps with muscadine grape juice. After work I have more volunteer work with my family and some friends in which we are helping install some speakers and modifying the sound system. Hopefully I will have time to make the taco salad that my daughter requested for dinner tonight and be in bed by 11. On a side note, Kay is back from Europe and I can't wait to see her! I missed her, as one of my previous entries stated so sadly. Well, that's it folks, just another manic Monday.
